Update: COVID-19

Please be advised that as of March 12, 2020, all speed skating events in Ontario for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season including the Ontario Provincial Championships in Sudbury and the Milton Relay Challenge have been cancelled. All meet registration fees will be refunded.

This cancellation is due to the ongoing and evolving concerns surrounding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and was made in the best interest of our skaters, coaches, officials, volunteers and their families.

At this time, it is the clubs’ discretion to continue training.

In Ontario, public health units are responsible for implementing the response to COVID-19 in local communities, including infection prevention and control precautions for events and gatherings. If you have questions or concerns about health precautions for community events, we suggest you contact your local public health unit. Contact information for your local public health unit can be found at this websitehttps://www.phdapps.health.gov.on.ca/PHULocator/Default.aspx

OSSA will take the next few weeks to determine the impact of these cancellations on such items as the selections for the Ontario Elite Circuit and will provide an update as soon as it is available.

Speed Skating Canada has also cancelled domestic competitions for the remainder of the season. You can read SSC’s message here.

As a result of the cancelled domestic competitions we will also be reveiwing the Quest for Gold ranking process. The amended process will be posted as soon as it is reviewed. The deadline to submit an application has NOT changed. Please submit your application by March 31, 2020.
